Nason and Summer Streets

?

Well Its almost here, MaynardFest is this Saturday and we are expecting a great turnout, the weather forecast calls for a fantastic New England fall day and we are excited that we are able to sponsor a booth and get the opportunity to meet current and new  MayDOG members. We have a great spot and will be located at the intersection of Nason and Summer Streets.

This naturally leads me to the subject of membership. For our current supporters and members, you may have noticed that we have had not had a membership drive this year. The reason for this is that we were not sure of the direction of MayDog and as such, did not feel that it was appropriate to collect dues without having a vision of where we were heading. Well, the answer is now clear. MayDOG is still a thriving organization and we are prepared to move forward.

That being said, our primary goal is OLRA or Off Leash Recreation Area AKA DogPark, however there is much more we want to do. For example we want to create a better awareness of dog ownership in Maynard and its surrounding communities. We want to help families learn more about dog safety and help owners be better aware of how we not only belong, but also fit into our town.

The bad news is that in order to further our message, we need financial support. If you became a member of MayDOG previously, you understand what I am saying.

The good news is that Membership Fees are now reduced for the remainder of 2010. The current fee schedule is Student $10 Individual $20 Family $25. Call it a recession special if you’d like. The Board of MayDOG understands that times are tight right now and we do not want that that to restrict what we are trying the accomplish.

The better news is… we are also running a Maynard Fest Special. If you renew your membership or join (either on line Become a Member!or in person) on or before October 2nd. You will receive full membership privileges at a reduced cost of:

Individual $15 Family $20

Not only that but you will also receive 3 months free; as all memberships activated before 12/31/10 will expire 12/31/11

And finally the best news is that there are other ways to support MayDOG , stop by our booth on Saturday and buy a raffle ticket for some wonderful prizes. Local merchants have contributed prizes in excess of $500 for our cause. As of today we have received donations from:

  • Anytime Fitness
  • Art & Soul
  • Aubuchon Hardware
  • Dunia
  • Jarmos Auto Service
  • Maynard Outdoor Store
  • Park Hill Chefs
  • Pet Nannies of Stone Tavern Farm
  • Wags to Whiskers

There will be at least 10 separate options to win and tickets will be sold at the day of the event for $1.00 each or 3 for $2.00, you can enter as often as you like and try to win the prize YOU want. (Sorry officers and directors of MayDOG are not eligible to win!) Winners do not need to be present at the drawing which will take place at approximately 2:30 at our booth! Stop by and see what wonderful prizes you may win.

We will also have our now famous kibble “gum ball machine” on site  and a donation jar handy to get rid of that loose change.  2010 may have been slow but rest assured, 2011 will once again be “The year of the DOG” at least in Maynard that is.

Hope to meet you soon,

Rob Wezwick

Change in the Board of Directors and Officers of MayDOG

Posted on September 11, 2010 · Filed under: News

As you may have heard by now, there has been a recent change in the Board of Directors and Officers of MayDOG. I have accepted the role of President and my wife Margit Eder has assumed the office of Vice President.

I would like to thank Lisa Lines and Mark Genest for all the hard work they have put in over the past two years laying the foundation for what MayDOG is today. We are very pleased that they both have decided to stay Directors on the board of MayDOG. Their passion and experience is very much appreciated and needed.

The complete board of directors for 2010-11 is as follows:President/Secretary: Rob Wezwick
Vice President/Treasurer: Margit Eder
Directors: Lisa Lines, Mark Genest, Tumeria Langlois, Alex Landsman, Fred Levy, Bonnie Winokar

As far as the direction of where MayDOG is heading? We expect to continue with the dream of an eventual dog park in Maynard and will also look at other off leash options in our fine town.

While this is our long term goal, we will also look at other dog-centric possibilities to make our furry friends a better part of our community at large.

Short term? We will restart the membership drive and also will be participating in Maynard Fest on October 2nd.in downtown Maynard. Please stop by and see hello or renew your membership. We will be holding a raffle there as well. The next planned event after that will be the Holiday Parade in December. Details on that will be forthcoming later this year. For those who walked last year, you know it was a lot of fun.  I am looking forward to it again this year and hope you will join us..

The weather is getting perfect for taking the dogs out. Please remember to leash them where required and to clean up after them.

I am looking forward to working with the board and also for hearing ideas and suggestions from the membership and community.

Thanks for your continued support,

Rob Wezwick
